Purpose: The purpose of this module is to introduce learners to the principles of AMR surveillance monitoring and evaluation, and reporting. 

Target audience: clinicians, veterinarians, laboratory professionals, epidemiologists, health records and information officers, and any other relevant professionals. 

Expected learning outcomes

By the end of this module, the learners should be able to: 

  • Define and describe components of AMR surveillance, and the challenges to effective AMR surveillance. 

  • Describe data types collected and variables used in AMR surveillance.

  • Describe AMR surveillance data reporting tools and data flow from surveillance sites to Global Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System (GLASS).

  • Analyze AMR data and describe reporting and dissemination among various stakeholders.

  • Describe the integrated one health approach in AMR surveillance. 

  • Describe the importance of utilizing surveillance data in program review, planning, advocacy, policy development, and decision-making processes.
