The purpose of this module is to equip learners with knowledge on the prudent use of antimicrobials in veterinary practice.

Expected learning outcomes

By the end of this module, the learners should be able to: 

  • Describe antibiotics commonly used in veterinary practice and their clinical use. 

  • Discuss empiric antibiotic therapy for common infections and describe the restrictions of using critical human drugs in food animals.

  • Discuss case studies on the clinical management of infections from different body systems.

  • Explain the national and international guidelines for prudent use of antimicrobials in animals.
